Japan Trip • Grown on Harvest 2007 Back
Our first harvest

After 4 months of waiting the harvest of our growing ponds at our offsite facility has finally began. The first harvest was of our best growing pond and our Goromo pond. The koi coming out of our best pond were truly mind blowing and an average growth rate of 10-16cm per koi over 4 months has been achieved.

The Goromo pond also included Yamabuki Ogon from Izumiya and the results in this pond were equally as good with most of the koi doubling in size.

In total we placed 55 koi ranging from 30-40cm into our 2000 gallons outdoor pond to gradually bring the temperature down to that outside. Overall it was a great success with the biggest koi harvested at 43cm!!

Please note we have not included many pictures of the harvested koi as individual pictures will be on the website soon.

Second Harvest

This was the harvest of some smaller size koi including Matsunosuke Kohaku and Kaneko Shiro Utsuri. Alot of these koi have been kept small in order to improve the quality and make excellent koi for the smaller size classes at koi shows. Another 35 koi were placed into an outside pond with a larger harvest to follow the next day.

Third Harvest

This was a harvest we were looking forward to. The ponds contained a lot of the more unusual varieties and had all yet again grown exceptionally well. We have had some amazing results in the 1,500 gallons ponds with a lot of koi doubling within 4 months with a high stocking level. We now only have 2 more harvests remaining and we will be adding individual pictures to the koi for sale section very soon.

Final Harvest

After a hectic time messing with pipes, pumping water from one pond to another we finally managed to get our final pond harvested. Around 50 pieces were netted in total and each and every koi positively gleamed as it came to the surface. This pond contained many different varieties and my highlight was most definately the Beni Kumonryu i wanted to keep them all but wasn't allowed. There isn't a great deal of pictures due to the lack of time but there is more on the way.
