Day 1

Today was the best day we have ever had on one of our buying trips. We began our buying at Kaneko Koi Farm where we developing a very special relationship ship with Yasuaki Kaneko. After much negotiating we began selecting and in total we picked 50 mixed koi, 50 Kujaku and Goromo mixed and 50 very high quality Tosai Shiro Utsuri. Ricky spent alot of time with Kaneko san trying to get a deal to select some pieces of his Tategoi Shiro Utsuri yearlings. After a long battle he agreed to sell, and WOW!! They lived up to our entire expectations truly mind blowing young koi. Several hours later we moved on up to Marusyo Koi Farm. Here we checked the 300 pieces of Nissai we had reserved before ordering many boxes of his Tosai. Makoto had a lot of Tategoi Sanke yearlings this season so we negotiated to buy 1 or 2. In the end he agreed to sell 20 pieces. In my eyes this was a truly amazing result. The quality of these koi is truly special and we were honored to be given this opportunity. The day ended at Oomo Koi Farm where we purchased a box of Tosai Beni Kumonryu. Later that afternoon we were sat in Fujio's office talking koi and were joined by Hisato Nogami. We arranged with him to select from his high grade Tosai at the end of the week. It was a fantastic day and we will see what tomorrow brings.

Day 2

We began today at Koshiji koi farm owned by Mr. Kase. He is a specialist in metallic koi and we were interested to view his new variety, a metallic Doitsu Ochiba. We purchased 100 pcs of his very good grade Doitsu mix and negotiated to buy 50 pcs of his new variety. After much discussion he agreed, these koi are superb but unfortunately i couldn't get a good enough photo. We later added a box of selected Nissai to the order before joining Kase san for green tea. We then went with Fujio to the Niigata agricultural and prefectural government office where we were shown the vets conducting a KHV screening test. A matter which is taken very seriously in Japan. A short journey up the road brought us to Maruboshi where we purchased 35cm Tosai Kohaku. The final stop was at Ikarashi san. This large farm produces many metallic koi and we purchased 6 pieces of high grade Nissai and 6 pcs of good grade Nissai. This mix included a very high grade Kumonryu. It was yet again another great day and i apologize for the lack of pictures but the koi selection is very time consuming.

The selection took around 1 hour. These are the jumbo Tosai we selected. Amazing skin quality.
The quality of the Showa was exceptional. Nogami wanted to keep 2 pieces of our Showa as Tategoi.
These koi are smaller than the first but higher grade. They are the best Kohaku yearlings we have ever purchased.
